Not only does it ruin the clothes, but once when my sister was a little younger, she was trying on a shirt and cut herself to the point of bleeding on one of those staples! This was at Savers, where they don't use staples anymore.

If they would just staple the tag to the label instead of the actual garment it would be fine, but they insist it would be too time consuming and customers couldn't seeing the price tickets easily.  As long as people are buying they won't change unless someone can come up with a faster mode of ticketing.

I think they should stop using staples all together.  At my Sal, they use 3-5 staples to attach the price tag to the clothing tag and it's virtually impossible to see what brand or size you are looking at.  They should switch to pricing guns like at Goodwill.  As an infrequent reseller, I am extra careful which items I purchase at the Sal because you never know about condition until you remove the staples...

Dennison fasteners are much faster, and pretty cheap too.

Hmm, maybe I'll send an email to the local Sal Army headquarters suggesting it- thanks!

I am all in favor of stopping the stapling policy.  in addition to causing the odd staple related injury and ruining the clothing, a bad stapling job causes the price tag to fall off.  at my two fav stores (village and superthrift), if the tag falls off, they won't let you buy it until it has been officially repriced (usually the next day).

if the salvos stop stapling maybe some other thrifts will follow suit...

My local SA stores do the same thing, also they reprice the item with the current color, so if it should be half-price you have to wait for that color to come around again.  People do switch tickets on items so some items lose their ticket because of theft.

I supply a lot of products to the Salvation Army's across the country, from label guns, labels,to the clothing tags. I have tried for years to get them to go back to the needle guns but with very little luck. The needles guns are a little bit more expensive than using staples, but they are slower and there's the possibility of the employee stabbing themself. There are a few ARC's across the country who do use the tagger guns, but they are few and far between.

There is no standard procedure and is left to the decision of the Captain/ Major at the individual ARC, and since it's cheaper with staples thats what they go with.

I am sick of GoodWill & other thrift stores putting stickers on items that will only destroy the item's packaging when you decide to remove it.

DD andI were in our favorite thrift today and spied a great worn leather jacket, with the tag stapled to the front lapel.  Don't they know holes don't come out of leather?
Geez.

A couple of weeks ago I was in a thrift and was looking thru the section they have of painting and prints looking to see if there was anything interesting.  Someone had marked the price of several pieces right on the front of several prints in black magic marker.  And not in some inconspicious corner, right smack in the middle.  They might as well have pitched it, the whole thing now damaged beyond help.

This was one of my pet peeves some time ago.  I found wonderful antique music sheets with the stickers right on the front, stuck on so tight that removal meant taking off the paper along with the sticker.  It was a shame to have such wonderful art ruined in such a way.  I tried every way possible to remove the stickers, and to no avail.  The paper was old and the stickers firm.  Who does that?  It didn't take a rocket scientist to see that there would be no way to take these off.   They very easily could have been put on the back. I also found nice new blankets that were wrapped with tape so that when the tape was pulled off, the blankets were full of holes.  I had wanted to get them to donate, but again, forget that one.  Brand new blankets, wrapped around with tape that totally pulled them apart when you tried to unwrap them.  GRRRR.

SA doesn't seem to care about the damage.  I'm so glad GW (I have a big one 5 minutes from my house) uses pin tags!

THIS!

I found at a goodwill a vintage girl scout Brownie camera in the original box (1950s or 60s).  I would have bought it no problem- except for the fact they marked the price right on the box in black marker....
