A great source for inexpensive used books, music, movies, books on tape, computer programs is your local Friends of the Library. They usually have periodic sales of donated materials and sometimes, even have a mini-book store inside the library. Check them out at your local library!

My library just had a sale today!  I usually don't find too much at those sales unfortuately.  I stopped by today but it had been going on for a few hours so maybe it gets picked over quickly.  I have never gone to the very beginning of those sales, some of them have previews for "Friends" only (people who pay an annual fee).  I mostly look at the children's books, cookbooks and craft books.

My, (admittedly) way in the past experience with library book sales is that the very serious book collectiors will get there early & it's very intense & serious for the first couple of hours. Then it lighten's up a bit. I've lately been going to the twice yearly book sales at my local Senior Center, they have lots of awesome books, great prices, kind of like a library book sale. I live in Anchorage, Ak, & just last week visited some friends who live in Seward. Was there 5 days & visited the local library "summer" book sale twice. Found some real treasures. Which of course I had to haul home on the train.....A couple of normally very expensive books about fibromyalgya, which I have, & a very nice copy of a biography of Joshua Slocum (American sailor) written by his son, which I got for a friend who is really into sailing books. That was a find! Also went to the local (for profit) thrift store in Seward, found the most beautiful small china plate from the 20's -40's the owner said. Roses on the plate with gold edging. Not terribly cheap, but not bad either. I can't resist beautiful china...
