Saw this Vera scarf today at the SA for 2.99.

Looked to be in good shape w/ no holes or anything.   It might have been fun to wear on inauguration day, but other than that I am not really a red, white & blue wearer so I skipped it.

Saw a bunch of Royal China Memory Lane pieces at the food bank thrift, of moderate value but not really worth the effort.  Other than that nothing for the longest time.  I may not bother to go back to them until next week- now that's bad!

You just never know what you are going to find. I had some good luck a week ago(although other than a few items, it was mostly clothes). This week, my luck was mainly clothes.     I did walk out 3 out of 6 shops empty handed yesterday. Thats the "price" you pay I guess:)

Clothes are great, but I have plenty so I am not on the prowl for more at this time, unless I see something exceptional.  I am always on the prowl for antiques & collectibles of which there have been few lately.  I did get a great polar fleece full length bathrobe for 3 bucks a few weeks ago though.  I didn't think much of it at first, except that I never see decent bathrobes so I was happy about finding one.  It has been quite a heat saver though.  It is so warm I find that I have been keeping the heat about two degrees lower.  I bet that will save some $ down the road.  Of course daughter still walks around in t-shirts complaining of being cold, but that is her problem she has a fleece robe too.

Yes you really should complain to the adminstrative office for your area's Goodwills.  One of the local SA's here has had managers in the past who aren't cut out for the job and take it out on the customers.  The regional manager should be aware of it, especially if the other Goodwills are not like that.

Thank you, I know I really have to get organized and make a formal complaint. I've been to three other local GW's in the past two weeks and not a single one had that attitude! Oh, I just remembered one of the so-called managers said she was the regional manager and she was the one changing all the prices! I did write a review here so that others can be warned.

We would have bought that one in a flash! Then again, we're total suckers for Vera scarves. In fact, my wife wore a red, white and blue Vera scarf on inauguration day! We recently uploaded a bunch of photos of our Vera scarf collection to the web, in case anyone is interested ... http://www.flickr.com/photos/sllab/sets/72157612739589311/ ... virtually all of them were thrifted or found at garage sales.

Slim pickings indeed, haven't found much lately at all. I always do much better around here in summer and fall. I went to my local GW late last week and have decided I will no longer shop at nor bring donations to that particular store. I'm tired of the insanely high prices (often times the prices are higher on used items than what they originally cost new) and the fact that every time I'm checking out, they change the prices! If the item is marked one price they immediately say that that's the wrong price and tell me I have to pay a higher price. I've left tons of stuff behind on principle, and frankly I'm tired of being treated like some kind of thief as they always use the excuse that people change the stickers. I do not see how those gooey stickers can get changed so easily, as I have to soak items in hot water and then use "goo gone" to get them off, and they certainly don't come off whole. They also have told me I have to pay for each item in a set, even when it is clearly priced as a set! I really need to find where I can write a letter of complaint, as this is unacceptable; who ever heard of doubling or tripling the marked price at checkout in any retail setting? And this is the only branch that seems to do this, so I really wonder what's up. Grr!

Which location is it?  Don't be afraid to spill the beans on these ne'er-do-wells.  It would make more of an impact if more people avoided the store altogether.  If this is your experience, than point them out and say so.  This free speech, otherwise known as "fair comment" is protected by the Constitution - at least the last time I checked.

Happy to comply! As a author/writer, I'm quite outspoken about my views on free speech, especially when it comes to personal experience. Its the Goodwill in Croton-On-Hudson, NY. I left a review under the store listing last week, so if you pull it up it should be the most recent one. I did notice there were other comments remarking about the ridiculous pricing, so I know I'm not the only one who's had bad experiences there. It just amazes me that this particular store is the only one in the area that pulls this price changing nonsense on marked items.  Angry

The other local GW's are quite pleasant, and much fairer with their pricing. (Well as fair as GW can be lately.) I was able to pick up an amazing Joop! suit jacket for my husband for a mere 7.99 on Sunday -- Joop! is an amazing high-end German designer who's suit jackets usually range around 300-500 euros! Gorgeous fabric, buttons, and style. Actually have to see if this particular GW is listed as its fairly new, and you can always find beautiful high-end designer suits (we saw Dior Coutoure, Missoni) that go for $17.99! Now that's thrift at its best!

An impressive collection, they look great all put together like that in flickr too, you should print that image of all the thumbnails out & frame it.

Vera scarves are so much fun! I love the patterns and colours. Got a pretty long one -very 70's- lime green and violet last week for $3. Its gonna work its way into my wardrobe as a belt!

I saw today that the Vera scarf finally sold, I think it was there as late as yesterday, but it must have went down to half price by now, so someone snapped it up for $1.50.  I am surprised it took so long.  I saw a gorgeous vintage silk Christian Dior scarf in aqua & white, for 1 dollar.  It was a little too short, I like longer scarves.  I may go back & see if it is still there tomorrow.
