Everytime I go the thrift store, I see certain items that just make me wonder why in the world they keep being produced.  Things that even if every man, woman, and child would buy one....there would still be millions left over.

Some of these include:
Baskets
Stuffed Animals
Mugs

I just imagine someone at some stuffed animal factory saying "I know, I know...the world has seen a stuffed dog ...but they haven't seen THESE stuffed dogs!  Fire up the fiberfil machines guys...we have THOUSANDS to make!"

What about you? Have any items you think should be on the "Please stop making these!" list?

I would like to add ugly glass flower vases...  You know, the cheap vase you get when your significant other sends you flowers?  Every thrift I've ever been to has several shelves devoted to these.  Honestly, I think they either need to mark them down to $0.50/ea, or just dump them in the recycle bin.

Those are good examples, also plain clear drinking glasses and wine glasses and maybe picture frames too.  Milk glass should probably be included too, although I do like milk glass.  All these things should be a quarter each.  Then maybe they could be useful for someone planning a DIY wedding or wedding shower, anniversary party etc. who needs lots of vases, some baskets and the like.

Just though of the worst offender, IMO- cheap looking "silk" flowers.  They have no place anywhere, except for maybe stage props.  Actually the thrifts in my area end up using them in the displays as no one buys them.

Used stuffed animals could have a purpose if some organization could send them overseas.  There would be kids in other countries who would love them.

Many thrifts in my area don't deal in toys anymore due to recalls.  Some thrifts dump the donated toys in a free bin on the front sidewalk.  Stuffed animals are great to snag as dog toys.  The dog usually gets about 10 minutes of enjoyment out of them before they're shredded.

I think we could safely declare a moratorium on mugs.  Some thrifts I've been in were giving them away.  Baskets too.

I'd like to see the end of Christmas records, especially those ones the gas stations used to give out.  I have never, ever been in any thrift store anywhere that didn't have at least one of these.  They must have pressed one for every man, woman, and child living in the US at the time.

And damaged and incomplete items.  Why oh why do they bother giving shelf space to a figurine missing an arm, or cracked saucer, especially when the matching cup is MIA??

I actually sort of like stuffed animals, even though I almost never buy one.  They're probably good for people with small kids who insist that mommy buy them something whenever they go into a store.  A $1 stuffed dog is a cheap price to pay to ward off a potential tantrum. Plus you never know when an old Steiff or Merrythought animal might get added to the mix.

The could probably stop making Barbies, Matchbox and Hot Wheel cars, Pictionary games, computer speakers, power cords, cheap and crappy Chinese backpacks, and Danielle Steele books.

There's a lot of stuff for which we do not lack.

Today I donated a bunch of stuff we had discussed in this thread.  We were going through the cabinets, trying to make room for more stuff.  A few years ago, we bought a vintage Mikasa set of dishes at Goodwill for $25.  We had never used the 16 saucers, or the 16 mugs that came with it.  It did not take much convincing to get them boxed up, and now they're back at Goodwill!

I suppose they won't stop making them as folks do need them but why on earth do ts put out for sale outdated calendars and appoinment books?  Is there really a huge demand for 3 year old calendars and appoinment books?  I don't mean refillable day planners  but the small appointment books businesses give out at year's end.  Are the current  things so expensive anyone would really try to use an old one an update them?  Really.  Hit them in the recycle bin folks.
And add the cookbook Cooking with MIss Piggy too.  I must see 2 or 3 copies in every thrift shop I'm in.  And the one written by Oprah's personal chef too.
And throw out the Tupperware that is missing it's lids.  Really, what do you do with it?  Poke holes for flowerpots?

I have never seen a Miss Piggy cookbook.  Are the recipes any good?  I usually prefer to get cookbooks published from the 30's-60's, but I could be convinced to buy a Miss Piggy cookbook.

I never saw a Miss Piggy Cookbook either, I would buy it if it was from the 70's or 80's.  I used to see that Oprah one frequently.  Southern Living and Cooking Light cookbooks are ones I see alot of.
