I saw a set of three Pyrex blue stripe casserole dishes at the food bank thrift today like this, but the middle size was missing the lid.
http://cgi.ebay.com/PYREX-GLASS-BLUE-STRIPE-OR-BAR-CODE-3-PC-CASSEROLE-SET_W0QQitemZ300369682612QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item45ef6da0b4

Lids are easy to find, but I did reluctantly pass them over.  I don't collect much Pyrex, but have a little corner in the kitchen with a few pieces, mostly Butterprint.

I already have so much blue, I was hoping to find more pink.  I saw pink Butterprint on Pyrexlove that I never knew existed- I really want that!

I do really like the Blue Stripe though.  Thrifts are closed here tomorrow so I have some time to think about if I want to go back on Monday morning to try to get them.  Knowing the prices at that thrift I would guess they will ask $5.00 for the set (they don't mark anything, it is up to he cashier)

Anyone else ever have a Pyrex dilemma when they saw cute pyrex at a thrift?  Also I would love to see pics of anyone else's Pyrex!

Usually if its cheap enough i buy it. i love pyrex. however the thrift stores in my area got wise and started pricing it high .  they were charging to bucks for a small amish print bowl. i think u should get them and if anything u could resale them on etsy or something. besides nothing is worse then regreting not gettin something. if u decide to get them i hope they are there waiting for you monday morning.

I don't collect Pyrex but I echo what LiaMaria said.  If if is cheap and I like it, I ususally buy it and then figure out what I will do with it.  I never seem to have any trouble figuring out what to do with thrifted goods.  I seem to be able to find a home for things if I decide I don't want it.  Life is too short to regret not spending a couple of dollars for something. I have enough dliemnas in my life to take on that one.

Since I have three thrifts within a stone's throw I go just about everyday so I see alot of stuff and sometimes have to make a hard decision not to get stuff no matter how cheap.  I am the only vintage junkie out of my friends & family so sometimes I have no one to give stuff to except back to the thrift store.  Also pyrex is kind of a pain to sell online because it is heavy and requires alot of peanuts/bubble wrap.  I was just thinking that more blue pyrex might not make a good display even though I liked it.  Maybe I could put the pink dish somewhere else and do a row of all blue, but I don't know I think maybe varied colors would be more interesting, that is more the dilemma I was thinking about.  Still deciding!

Judging by your display of pyrex u have a great decorating sense so i know if u decide to get them u will make it look great. but  i know how it is when noone in your friends and family are into vintage. thats one of the reasons i love this site so much , being able to talk to people who share similiar interests and apperciate when u find a great deal at the thrift. i bore my friends talking about it.

Yeah, I know what you mean.  I was at a Christmas party and someone was talking about the T.V. show Mad Men and I said that show was one of the reasons mid-century modern style was so hot right now.  No one knew what Mid-Century Modern was and when I explained no one really seemed too interested.  How could you watch that show and not notice the clothing and decor?

I used to buy a bunch of pyrex too. I love it. It's a good seller on ebay, at least it used to be. Depends on the pattern and colors, but yes, TS owners are becoming aware of the value and are marking them higher. I hate to buy anything over $5 in the housewares.

I decided not to bother running over to the thrift in the morning, I would just wait until my usual time to go over & see if they were still there.  They were!  I asked the cashier how much for the set & she said $3.50 so it was pretty much a no brainer.  I don't have them set up exactly as I would like but I hope to find a few more colors to make a good display.

I love them. what a great deal for 3.50. i also like the way u put it together looks really nice. i really like that pattern. whats the name of it? wish i could find it.  im glad u got them. on the subject of madmen the  only reason it sparked my interest in the begining is because of the clothes and the decor. i actually had the same conversation with a group of my friends and they just rolled their eyes and looked confused. oh well.  again i love your new pyrex. i wish i had thrift stores in my area  like yours with great prices and finds. havent had  much luck lately but hopefully that  will change.

Thanks, I am glad I got them.  Pyrexlove calls them "blue barcode", but someone emailed to say they found one in an original box that was labeled "blue stripe".  The store I got them at has been hot lately for some reason, maybe more donations coming in.  I always have stopped in there because it is down the street from the Sal Army and the people are nice, store is well organized, etc.  but I only would get occasional finds.  The past few months I have been finding all sorts of things which is good because the Sal Army has been slow.  The other Sal Army right down the street form me used to be great, now it is the worst of the three in the area.

I guess the best thing to do is to keep visiting your local thrifts often because you never know when the tide will change.

No Pyrex dilemma today I saw a 1 qt Butterprint casserole for 2 bucks at the SA today.  No lid but I have one that fits.  There were a few other tempting Pyrex pieces including a nice mint condition 4 qt Snowflake blue mixing bowl and a big baking dish also in Snowflake blue, I never saw one like it before, it looks like a crock pot, must be at least 4 quart.  I have no room for these items so I passed them up, but someone scooped up the mixing bowl minutes later.

I decided to take a second look at the housewares and I am so glad I did becasue the second time around I spotted a rare McKee Green dot fridge dish.  I only found McKee dots once before at a thrift.  No lid, but for 89 cents I was all over it.

I thought of this forum when I was there because I was peering into the carriage of the woman who got the mixing bowl to see what else she got and saw some really cute vintage skirts she found.  I complimented her on the finds and she didn't seem threatened by it.   Smiley

Wow I am in awe of the Mckee dots piece. That is probably worth like $75 even without the lid. The Mckee dots are probably the only thing I have yet to find in a thrift around here. I did find about a year ago a Mckee Yellow Seville Cereal canister with the lid for $1.80. Way to go on that!

About four years ago I found a set of 3 McKee mixing bowls with blue dots for 8 bucks, I haven't seen anything McKee since, although I probably wouldn't be able to identify the old pressed glass pieces they made so maybe I have missed some of those.  I'm surprised vintage skirt lady didn't pick up the fridge dish, but I totally missed it when I went by the first time and spotted it the second time I went by going in the opposite direction, so I bet the eye tends to go in a particular direction depending on how you approach the shelves.

Nice finds. you always get the greatest pyrex at great prices. im jealous.  love the polka dots. i did get some pyrex on friday i got a cinderella bowl in the friendship pattern. 1 orange cinderella bowl and 1 4qt yellow mixing bowl. but i paid a little more then i would have liked.  all the thrift stores caught on to the pyrex it seems like. except for the salvation armys here. i like the s a they have really nice people working there. i cant wait till its yard sale season so maybe ill get lucky and find some fire king and pyrex cheap.

I love the orange & yellow colors.  I just started finding the butterprint pieces this year and I already had one dish from my parents house that I like, so I have been collecting the butterprint when I see them.  In years past I really haven't seen much in the way of pyrex, except the green & brown colors I don't like as much.  Usually when I saw a colorful piece it was pretty worn.  Also I have never found much in the way of Fire King or jadite, scarce around here.

I can hardly wait for yard sale season too, but it is still months away here!
