Yesterday we had a massive yard sale.  Made some good bank but had a lot left over, so into the van and down to Goodwill it went.

Actually, we had three car loads of stuff - 2 van loads and and a loaded Buick.

Anyone else ever make a huge donation like that?  And crazy donation stories?

I did that one time I was moving.  Had a bunch of stuff that didn't sell and Salvation Army said they would send a truck to pick it up.  (was mostly furniture).  The furniture was on the first level of the house, as they could not come right away.  When the truck arrived a few days later, the guy said "put it on the sidewalk, and I'll take it".  I was home alone and could not move the stuff by myself.  The person we had scheduled the appointment with assured us that the crew on the truck would be able to take the stuff out of the house for us.  The truck ended up leaving with nothing.  Upset at Salvation Army, I loaded up the stuff in a rental truck the next weekend and took it to Goodwill.  I pulled up and goodwill wanted to pick and choose what they took.  They wanted the nightstands and the dressers, but not the matching bed?  They wanted the speakers, but not the stereo?  I had to tell them if they wanted stuff that was part of a set they had to take the WHOLE set. It was a nightmare trying to donate that stuff.

Out here, they take whatever they get.  Goodwill actually has a "clearance center" downtown where THEIR castoffs go and is sold by the pound.

Goodwill is starting to send trucks around - this is new for them out here.  I don't know if they'd move stuff out to their truck, but their using trucks to do pick-ups now.

St. Vincents has trucks out here, as does Sally and DAV.

We made a huge donation to several thrifts when we closed up my MILs house.  We had had an estate sale but there was still tons of stuff left.  We threw out the junk like bags full of bags (she saved every grocery bag to use for garbage) and then bought garbage and wastebasket bags.  Go figure.
Some stuff went to GW. some the the DAV.  GW also wanted to pick over stuff but DH was tired by then and said all or nothing.  They took what he had but he was so ticked off the rest went to the DAV.  It was all furniture and clothes, no junk but GW still wanted to be picky.  And believe me MIL had expensive tastes.  That is why DAV gets all out donations now.

My husband and I went to the GW that you buy by the pound. Didn't see much, but did get some stuff to sell. We did see ebay people. They look at you like YOU BETTER NOT TAKE MY STUFF. lol..They were looking up a telephone system. They took 10 minutes looking it up and bought it. I wonder if they sold it..

All you have to do is move to Phoenix.

I just donated 23 boxes of books, 8 of them to the local senior center book sale & 15 of them Big Brothers/Big Sisters came & picked up. They said I would have to carry them down the stairs to the first floor of my apt building, but the guy was really nice & helped me carry them down.  This was after I took lots of books to the used book store & now I have over $500.00 worth of credit there! Nearly all of these books were originally gotten from a thrift store near where I live that has books at 3 for $1.00 & once a month they are 10 for $1.00 for a week....This was nearly 3 years of collecting. My living room floor had trails......Now I can vacuum! (It was bad) My siblings are betting on whether or not I do it again.....I am swearing up & down NOT!

I tried having a yard sale over the holiday weekend, but we had summer weather here and it was a ghost town.  Many things were left on the lawn as freebies, but I have several bags of books in the car ready to go to the thrifts.
