I think some thrift store pricers literally throw darts at a board with prices on it or pull prices out of a bingo callers cage.

Some times people just "think" something is worth more than it really is.

The strange reality is that sometimes people will pay the price on the item. I have these neeto books with records in the binding that are for teachers. I have a set of 20-30 of them that I got at a thrift for a quarter a piece. I looked them up in Amazon.Com. Most people had them for $2-$4, but there was this one seller who had them listed for $200-$400! Now that may sound VERY stupid, but the right person might come along and just buy one of those hugely overpriced books.

Something is worth what someone is willing to pay.

shopgoodwill.com has awesome stuff on there for auction. But it's mind boggling, because stuff sells for WAY higher than it does on eBay. I do not know if people are bidding high because it's Goodwill or what. Sometimes even junk sells for more than it's actually worth.

Always great action figures and toys on there. Which is kind of strange. I asked the local Goodwill why there is never any toys or action figures there and the woman told me it's because they don't accept most.

I would REALLY like to know then what they do with the ones people just leave at the door and go away.

Let's talk shoe prices.  I cannot believe how much our
Goodwill stores (sorry to always pick on Goodwill) charge
for used shoes!  They are up to $4.99 at the lowest and
that includes cheap ballarina slippers.  Normally they want
$6.99 up.  They are USED shoes people!

The GWs around here have a pretty consistent price on shoes, that being 4.99 for women's, 8.99 for boots, and so on...but get this...THAT is a reasonable price just because some of the other thrifts (Salvation Army, for example) have prices all over the place.  Nine West and other "mall" brands might be 14.99!!!!  (actually saw a pair of nine west for that price...LOL). Oh and I saw a pair of TOE UP (that is torn up really bad) fake leather boots for 24.99 at another thrift. They do have half price shoe days but still half of "overpriced" is still too much.  If I am going to pay over 10 bucks for a pair of shoes, I will go to Marshall's or TJ Maxx and buy new or pay a little more and go to Macy's with a coupon and a sale.

BTW about He-Man/Masters of the Universe. Everybody thinks that stuff is worth gold today, when in reality, it's not...aside from a few figures.

Neighbor across the street used to deal BIG in MOTU (Masters of the Universe) stuff and he has mentioned that the market has almost entirely dried up.  He's a huge collector, and has multiples of pretty much everything and anything.

I think one reason is because of the "Masters of the Universe Classics" line. That's a fairly new line and the figures are only sold online. They usually sell out hours after they're released, often causing the website to crash. Everyone is into those now, not the vintage stuff.

That was a popular line of toys, which means they made tens of thousands. So they aren't as rare as people think.

But I see people on craigslist asking $100 for a small pile of incomplete, beat-up figures that aren't worth .50 each.

People respond to my wanted ad all the time and I pretty much never buy anything, because they seriously think they have something of amazing value.

I believe GoodWill sets most of the auctions at higher prices depending on the items.  If you notice most of the items rarely start out at a dollar or less.

One day I saw they had a Michael Jackson cassette single that started out at six dollars & that didn't even include the shipping!

Crazy!
