we are going down to the outer banks from pittsburgh.  Does anyone know of any "must stop": at thrifts near our destination?  Hubby can't believe I am asking this........but you know, nothing like a fresh thrift shop. Thank you

Its been a few years since I've been there, but the thrifting there was surprisingly good.  The 2 I remember as "must see" are Hotline and Hotline 2.  They're listed in the directory here.

I also remember seeing a thrift, I think in Corolla, on the way to Ocracoke,  but it was closed by the time we were on our way back.  Should have stopped on the way there.

Well, I've been in the Outer Banks for a couple of days, went thrifting today.  The only thing I bought was a set of 50's dresser lamps from a for-profit thrift for $18.  I was extremely disappointed with the Hotline stores I had recommended a couple of weeks ago.  Apparently they are under new management (from when I was here a couple of years ago).  Now, anything that appears to be over 20 years old is priced at $20 or more in some sort of attempt to cash in on vintage and/or collectible items.  There was a really cool 60's/70's waffle iron that I was interested in,  but ended up leaving it on the shelf when I saw the $30 price tag.  $5-$10 and it would have been sold.

We are at OBX now and yesterday Hubs took me to two, A little consignment thrift in Kill Devil and another, childrens hospital daughter of the king thrift.  Both were reasonable and staff very nice. I did not find a treasure though.  Both were priced lower than GW.  There is a goodwill over the bridge that I definitely want to hit.  Hubs brought his SUV, and I don't drive it, so I have to wait for him to go.  It sure is a glorious day at Pine Island NC.

Hotline Pink had some cool stuff, but they had the highest prices of all the thrifts on OBX.  Its a shame, because a few years ago they had very reasonable prices.

we   ventured to hotline and gw today.  The gw was spotless and organized.  I did not find a thing I desired.  The hotline was full of "stuff" but again nothing screamed "buy me".  It was interesting seeing fresh to me thrift stores. thanks again Jay for the tips.
