Saw a "Nobody Beats the Wiz" T-shirt at the SA today for .99 cents.  Maybe I'll buy it for my Brother-in-law, who is from N.Y. when it goes down 1/2 price.  I just remember the Seinfeld episode with "the Wiz".  I wonder if the real commercials were as comical.

I don't recall Nobody Beats the Wiz being funny at all. I just remember finding them sort of annoying because they went from "The Wiz" when I was a kid, to "Nobody Beats The Wiz" as their full name...

Strange marketing tactic.

It's entirely possible. After all, they were owned by Cablevision toward their end...and you know what cable companies charge for things.

Eddie, I know you were joking, but I think you've probably hit on it. There were a number of stores, like Trader Horn and Circuit City and Crazy Eddie's that were cheaper. (Of course some of those went bankrupt.... Smiley )

Don't forget Luskin's "The cheapest guy in town".  They're not around anymore either...
