Howdy all,

The very first thrift store I ever shopped in has closed it's doors for the last time. The Auxiliary White Elephant Thrift Shop in Winter Park, Florida closed for good last Friday.
Joyce was the manager and she and I became very close. The store was opened in 1982 and I first shopped it in 1987. They were our sample thrift shop for our marketing programs and I'll miss the opportunity to ever be able to shop there again.
Kinda odd how we are saddened by the loss of a favorite shop.

Sorry to hear about your loss GB.  I know I had some favorite haunts over the years that have just disappeared.  One even said that they were moving, but after their shop closed I've looked where they said the new location would be, but it wasn't there.  Sad

sorry about that:(  I just realized I know which one you are talking about! I am in Tenn but lived in S.FL and visited Orlando.. It is near Publix and Fresh market?  That was a great thrift store. Very interesting stuff.

Yep, that's exactly the one. They even expanded a few months back and everything.

That's sad.  My favorite thrift, which used to be the local Sal Army, didn't close, but changed management and got crappy over time, so it is like a loss but I had time to get used to it.

The garage I used to take my car to closed suddenly due to the owner's retirement, that was a real bummer.  I still haven't found a regular place I like.  You don't realize what an inconvenience not having these places will be until they are gone.

The garage I used to use closed several years ago.  I really liked the place.  Owner was honest and prices were reasonable.  One Sunday when my car wouldn't start  the owner himself came to my house and gave my car a jump and then had me follow him to his shop and changed the battery.
The city boughtthe property from it's owner tho and the garage closed.  The owner had plans to re-open across town but there were some unexpected problems with that location so the garage never re-opened.  Never found anyone else I ever liked or trusted as much:(

Man that sounds heart wrenching, I know just the feeling. I grew up with a thrift shop right in the neighborhood of my small town outside of NYC. It was a gem and the owner knew my friends and me. She traveled a lot and would find things at garage sales and on her travels and bring back for the shop yet the prices were so so darn cheap. It was sad it didn't make it, probably because the small town i'm in people are always leaving it not visiting it. I once saw a round tourister suit case there for 15 dollars, and came back 4 months later it was still there! (I bought it then) After a good long run, the owner retired to the mid west and my favorite store got taken over by a t-shirt printing company. HOW LAME!!
