Title: Last Day of the month check-in from a lurker.... Post by: Big Daddy Audio on June 30, 2009, 10:32:09 PM I did okay in the month of June, scoring 12 vinyl albums of stuff I already had and some things I didn't have.
The albums were stored in plastic outer sleeves and the records were protected with VRP's, which are higher quality inner sleeves. I found some discs that HAD the VRP's and switched them with my selections that DIDN'T have them - probably unethical, I know, but I've become more cut-throat. I've had it with the Goodwills in my area. The prices are way out of line now, so it's evident that this "over-pricing-mania" has swept into the Valley. I saw a middle of the road Yamaha Receiver today - nothing special in okay condition - priced at $79.99.... A year ago this would have been $24.99..... The year before that about $9.99. Things are out of hand, and "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore! I'll still search, because that's what I do, but I don't even print coupons anymore. Post by: valleythriftshopper on July 01, 2009, 01:54:05 PM Sorry to hear your Goodwills are becoming useless, maybe time for some thrifting roadtrips. The Sal Army here that tends to be ridiculous with non-clothing items had a used copy of Michael Jackson's Thriller album behind the counter for $39.99. Not that I wanted it but I asked the cashier if I was seeing correctly & she said yes. I looked on Ebay to see if they were really going for that much & you can get one cheaper with free shipping there. Plus who knows what the condition was of the record was at the SA. I am sure whoever priced it didn't play it or take into consideration the condition and they also stuck a sticker price right on the jacket which would have to be carefully removed not to leave a mark.
Sorry but thrift stores should not be higher than retail even if they are supporting charitible causes and if you are going to be pricing "collectibles" get a clue about them! I have to handle a lot of icky polyester to find just one 'to die for' item. With the $Stores and every kind of tchotchke selling for one $ . . . the TS pricers don't seem to notice the difference.
It takes a trained eye, some taste and class to make a 'kill'. Oh the thrill of victory. Methinks with the economy, the TSs are trying to increase the bottom line too. It's in my blood. I can't stop. I'm off to the beach in the morning. Happy Holiday! dew Title: Re: Last Day of the month check-in from a lurker.... Post by: mccoysnina on July 03, 2009, 09:44:51 AM I know it is the thrill ofthe hunt that keeps me going back. Love the chase. Wed I found a siver candelabra for $4 that is just like one I already have. DH paid a lot more than that for the one he gave me for my bday some years ago. It should have glass bowl with a frog in the middle for flowers, that is missing, but heck how hard are little glass bowls and frogs to find? Now my piano can have matching candelabaras.
Yesterday I found a small square table cloth from Japan for $.90. Really pretty. I aslo found a liquid silver and turquoise necklace for $.25. and two pieces of BYbee pottery for $.60 a piece. A good day. Jeannie Title: Re: Last Day of the month check-in from a lurker.... Post by: SplashsMom on July 13, 2009, 07:41:33 AM I know it is the thrill ofthe hunt that keeps me going back.
