Millie gets a thrifted bowl.

Pyrexia...it must be contagious and I could only have gotten it from you guys! I was in St. Vincents this weekend and came across a small, rectangular black (charcoal) snowflake Pyrex baker. If it had been any other color it probably wouldn't have snagged my attention quite like this one did. There aren't a whole lot of black dishes in thrifts, then add that pretty white snowflake pattern to it and it's just stunning!! Since this is the first one I've ever seen, I'm not counting on making this a pattern I collect. Doesn't a collection start when you have 3 of something? All the same, I will be forever watching for more of this pattern!

I love pyrex!  I have too much pyrex.  My husband cringes and makes nasty faces at me when we are thifting and I find more pyrex.  Part of the fun of pyrex has to be all the beautiful patterns and colors I find.  Right now I am about even on the pink daisy and something else I can't think of right now.  Last time we were in Christies, I found the black snowflake casserole dish that I really wanted, but they had priced at $8.00.  If it'd been 2 or 3 then it would have come home with me but at $8...   Embarrassed

At $8.00, I would have bought it.  I'll spend at least that much in time, aggravation, and gas searching for another at a cheaper price.

Of course, as soon as you dropped $8 on that one, you would have found another for $1.99.  So what?  Then you'd have a matched set!

See you next time
bye for now.

I hesitated at $4, but finally the fact that I'd never seen the black before won me over. I would have been happier at $2!! (ok, so call me cheap)

Congrats on your groovy black and white find. It sounds very classy! I think $4 is a good price. Prices at thrifts are going up.

I myself had never seen black/white Pyrex until we did Renniger's in November. There were pieces there. I was astounded.

Yes, Pyrexia is contagious, and yes, I got mine from this board.  Found last week, at a flea market (where I was selling--not as bad as the last time, but still unpleasant) a blue Pyrex Butterprint Cinderella bowl, in perfect condition.  It was three bucks, and I need it like I need another, well like another piece of Pyrex! But I couldn't resist, since I have thrifted a few pieces of the Butterprint already over the years, why not? Yes, I would have preferred $2 also, lol, but I thought $3 was great because of the condition and because the thrifts here seem to have caught on to "ebay" craze and are pricing their Pyrex--worn, scratched Pyrex, mind you---at 6-10 bucks a pop.

I agree with Big Daddy. The time, stress, aggravation and gas you might expend looking for a piece that floats your boat the way the piece did at Christies, Tammy, isn't worth it.    And yes, it stands to reason that had your dropped the $8 on that piece you would have found another at a much cheaper price--though, perhaps, in a different size. That's what happened to me with my Pyrex dots, found the blue dots in October, found the yellow one in December.

Of course the $8 I would have spent would have bought me 3 other Pyrex pieces in the same store of a different design!  And as my husband pointed out, I really didn't need it seeing as how I have 5 of the same casserole dish at home just in different patterns.  He did push me to get it as a Xmas present to myself but I had to agree, I really just didn't have to have it.  Who knows, it might still be there the next time I go and I might be feeling weak at that moment.   Grin

(have you ever had worries that your shelfs might be holding a tad too much weight on them with all the pyrex stacked on them?  LOL)
