No one has tried to "dress" me, but today I got BOOTED!  My boss and I snuck out to a church rummage sale over lunch, and she spotted a pair of boots she thought would be  perfect for me.  They were size six - perfect! - and two dollars - perfect! - so I thought, well, sure, I'll check them out.  While I was looking at them, one of the nice church lady volunteers said, "Oh, are you interested in those?  Let me get you a chair so you can try them on!"  Within seconds, I had an audience of church ladies and customers all cheering me on.  "Try them on!"  "You have to buy them!"  "Stand up and walk around in them!"

Now why would so many people be so interested in someone trying on a pair of boots?  Because these boots were:
* knee-high
* lace-up
* platform
* six-inch stiletto heel
* red-white-and-blue boots with stars up the sides!

They fit like a dream and I was even able to totter around in them.  One of the nice ladies pointed out a pair of crutches I might want to buy, just in case.  My boss was beaming.  All the church ladies buzzed around while I paid for them, and they made me promise I'd come to the next rummage sale and tell them where I wore the boots.

When I got back to work I stomped around the office in them for a few minutes, scaring the bejeepers out of some of my more conservative coworkers.  Little do they know, I go to costume parties with drag queens and trannies who wear these kind of boots all the time.  If the boot fits, wear it!

I did have one rather strange man try to get me to try on this thrift wedding dress...

I chuckled nervously... politely... and fled.  Grin

Those boots sound like a total scream! Too fun!

"Evil Kenivil called... he wants his boots back!"

(I am relieved, Mattie, to know that you were not metaphotically booted FROM the church sale... I don't think one of our forum members have been asked to leave a place before. :-)

Recently, I had the pleasure of taking my 18 y/o college son to Goodwill to pick out some things to make a "Zombie" costume for a Zombie fest.
Well, there were 2 preppie rich kids trying to put together nerdie college professor outfits for halloween.
I helped them match wonderful sweater vest with tacky jackets and weird pants
They found ties that went with their ensemble.
I reminded them to get a pipe for effect and black plastic glasses.
we all had a good chuckle

Sounds like you guys have fun when you go shopping!

The store where I go everyone is pretty much avoiding eye
contant and making sure they are careful not to see anyone
else there and hoping no one else sees them.

Lately I've been having people come up to me and ask questions.  Like at the laundry 3 different people asked me questions about how to do stuff in the laundry.  I think they thought I worked there or something.  Then yesterday a woman asked me if I thought various blouses would go with a skirt she'd picked out.  I don't know if it's because I have a friendly face or if I remind them of their grandmother with my gray hair and bun!!!!!

Well, I don't know if it's sexy...but my hubby likes it.  He braids it for me and gives me a trim when I need one.

this wasn't really a conversation, but when we moved here my sons were about 7-8 years old. i took them to the *unnamed thrift* one day because, after all, we were out in the middle of nowhere and nothing could happen to them in a small country town. when we got into the car, one of my boys seemed a little off. he told me that the store was weird... turns out some old man had come up to him, put his arm around him, and started humming and sort of leading him out the aisle. i was totally freaked (as was he!) by the time we got home, the store was closed. i called first thing next morning, but, what could they do - nothing actually happened, he was safe. i actually tried to minimize the incident so that he wouldn't panic. i just let him know THAT was wrong (well, he figured that much out by himself!) it was really freaky. i don't go to that store much and when i do, i totally scan the perimeter like a guard dog. i don't take my kids.
