I made a trip to St. Vincent DePaul. And boy did I make a find. You furniture fanciers can fill me on this since I'm kinda sketchy here.

It was a dining room set made by Roger Rougier (according to the tag - you know this guy?) of Canada. Strikingly contemporary in a '90s kind of way, with 8 chairs that sloped at the top, a mirrored china cabinet, and a table that was a work of art. A black diagonal leaf slashed through a metallic-looking top with silver fins at the bottom. This set supposedly was purchased for $14,000! I'm guessing by the looks of it that it was between 10 and 15 years ago.

Verizon doesn't play well with posting pictures on forums, apparently, so if you want to see the pictures (I took them on my phone) lmno and I'll e-mail 'em once I get 'em on my computer.

Amazing! Makes you wonder what sort of life history it had that something distinctive and not terribly old (and super-expensive originally) made it to St. Vincent de Paul...

Wonderful news for you, of course!

Sounds really cool.  I'd love to see the pics.  I just picked up a cool dining room set too, the chairs look just like this one I found on the net:

Not for me who's just moved and has already spent that $2800 at least once, it's not! Cheesy besides, I like my $600 dining set just fine.
