There's only one ts, a St. Vinnies, in my town. I check it out every day during my lunch hour. They are constantly putting out fresh merchandise, so my theory is that to get the goods I need to be there often. We all know that the best stuff doesn't usually hang around for long, right!? So how often do you thrift?

Honestly, I probably shop too much.

I live in Los Angeles --- there are four thriftstores within walking distance of my work & two thrfits within walking distance of my house.

& in Los Angeles -- we don't walk very far at all   LOL

Every week I go to at least two Goodwills, two Jewish Fed. Council shops & the UCLA hospital thrift.

It's about a weekly thing for me. I have three circuits: one takes me to the south shore, where there's a Goodwill and a Salami across the street from each other.

Another takes me a few miles down the road I live on. There's a Vietnam Veterans thrift and a Goodwill a couple miles away from each other, and up the road, another Vietnam Vets thrift I go to occasionally.

Farther west, another Vietnam Vets thrift, a Goodwill and a furniture-only St. Vincent's.

There are two odd dogs that don't really fit my circuits since they're not near any other stores, so I try to make them monthly. But on any given week, you'll likely find me somewhere on a circuit.

Too often - however - it is the best way to get the good stuff.

There are so many thrifts in Phoenix that you can't turn around without bumping into one (that's an exaggeration, but you get the point) so there's pretty much one wherever I happen to be on any given day.  There will be times where I don't hit one of about 25 regular stops over the course of a few days, but those are rare.

That is all.

I go about once or twice a week. Depends on whether I can get away at lunchtime or not. But going often and going early does help.

I thrift two to three times a week.  A lot depends on the season, as there is less time in the summer than in the winter.  If I am in town on the weekends, I can hit three or four stores in one day.  Otherwise, I have to fit it in to lunch time and maybe one evening here and there.

I don't know about others, but I have different stores for different purposes.  There's one where I get most of my books, another where I find more linen and lace, and a third where I find more clothes.  That's why I try to fit in three trips per week.  I'll make more stops when I have more time.  But my "regular" schedule takes into account the three stores I have had the most success with.

It also depends on whether I am thrifting for myself, or making it a social event with a friend.

Thriftily,
Alexandra

Not nearly often enough! lol I work nights, so that pretty much cuts out any weekday thrift trips, since my free time is from like 2am-whenever I go to bed, usually around 5. And there are no thrifts near my work that I know of. I try to hit a few shops on a Saturday afternoon if I have the time, I am usually so busy catching up on the weeks errands, like grocery shopping, that I really only get to go once every few weeks. I wish I could go more, I agree that going often is the best way to get the good stuff. Although this past Saturday I was actually up early to go for a drug test for a new job and managed to make it to the farmers market before they closed (rare for me lol) and hit a few thrifts near my house. I scored a dozen green park lane glasses in various sizes for 50 cents each! I need to thrift a china cabinet soon, the glasses haven't been unpacked yet cuz I have nowhere to put them!

Hey, Tiamatgreen, congrats on both the new job and the Park Lane glasses!  That's terrific!

Bet the glasses would look great in a china cabinet with a bit of lighting shining on them to make them glow.

Every other day. (Yes, really! Cheesy)

I'm a stay-at-home mom so I have a good bit of time to thrift. I usually go while I am out on other errands.

Funny but i feed my Vinyl addiction by going to the record store (amoeba music in hollywood) EVERYDAY on my lunchbreak for the same reasons you posted...

as for thrift stores... i try to go at least once a week, but i am very fortunate that i have ALOT of stores to choose from, and for that reason, i'll LITERALLY brake for a thrift store if i have the time Smiley

Amoeba in Hollywood? Near the ArcLight?

Oh yeah,  there are two Goodwills & two Out of Closet shops near by.

I wish I could go thrift shopping more often, but nowdays I usually end up going only once every couple of weeks.  Then I usually hit two shops that are just a couple blocks from each other.  They are on the other side of town, and that's the only reason why I would go to that side of town, so it's hard to get over there sometimes.

Nice!! you know your stuff!! the two Out of the Closets that i think you're referring to are the ones by hollywood and western and the other on on Fairfax south of melrose!

but the Goodwill on Vine is my best best for the lunchtime trip because i work so darn close to it (that is ALSO the reason why i shop at amoeba everyday too...)

Yup, those are locations I was thinking of -- the Hollywood one is by the carwash.

I was at the Goodwill on Vine when the LA area GWs had their 3 day all clothes $3 each sale.  Horrible air conditioning at that store but I did well.

I usually go to the GW on La Brea south of Wilshire,  parking is tight though.

If I go to the Out of Closet on Fairfax then I also go to the Jewish Federation Council shop just north of them on Fairfax.  Usually not as good as the Jewish Fed shop south on Fairfax just below Olympic.

Have you been to that one?  It looks like it used to be a small diner --- they still have the 1950s high counter the cook would put the order on for the waitress to pick up.
