At the Sals in the Philadelphia area, vinyl albums go for 1.99 and 2.99, which I think is ridiculous.

"Record stores" - do you mean place that sell vintage vinyl?  There's a little one in my neighborhood, and I think they go for $5 and up.

In the more hip nabes, they probably start much higher than that.

Village Thrift sells them for 50 cents each.  Until recently, they sold them for 20 cents each!!

It really depends.  I have seen them for as low as $.25  You can find some great collections on Ebay too.  One day I overheard a guy say that he found a great 70's & 80's rock collection that someone put out curbside for the garbage pickup.  I hope I can say that one day.

Sometimes people post give aways for records on Freecycle, you can post a want ad for records too, never know what responses you might get.  Chruch rummage sales can be a good source for records.  I saw a great collection at a church sale once, but it had been sold.

The Salamis I go to vary. One sells their records for a quaddah, one sells them for 50 cents, and yet another sells them for 99 cents.  At least they're consistent and keep every record the same price, unlike some stores.

Most of the record stores I see start at a dollar and work up from there depending.
