Haggling on overpriced items

I have a couple of times at our goodwill in Mesa,az.I saw a toy on shelf and then I saw a little toy that was suppose to go to the big toy in all in one box if you bought it new.. I told the check out person and if I can have the toy that goes with this toy and she said sure.    This last weekend.. The same store, but they have moved across the street for some reason.. They are way over priced. My husband and I saw a cash register from Fisher Price the older one..It was $75. We about fainted..I told the person at the counter and told him it was too high.. He said someone will buy it.. I said no they won't,  to high  lol..He looked at me funny..I bet we go two weeks later will still be there..

The problem is mentality - a mind set - that tells people that they are getting a "great bargain" when they buy at a thrift shop.  Some person will go into that Goodwill and see the price and say to themselves, "Wow, that's a lot, but this is a thrift store so I bet that's a bargain."

Also add in that AZ Goodwills offer coupons and colors, and someone actually paying $75.00 for that is not likely.  Someone will get it on a 50% off day, or use a coupon and get 20% off, or maybe a senior citizen will get it for 25% off.

But I totally agree - AZ Goodwills have gone completely overboard with their prices.  I can go to used record stores, find a better selection of albums and better quality albums and pay less.

But it is because of the mindset that has been ingrained into people that they think they are getting some sort of a phenomenal deal when they buy something at a thrift store, and that may not be the case at all.

I wish thrift stores were more open to price change suggestions.  I often pass on a thrift store buy because I know the ebay price and Walmart price.  At a certain point, it just makes more sense to buy at a regular store.  I'd like to see more aggressively low prices at thrift stores.

The toy at GW that was $75 was at the 50% day.. That is why I was unhappy with the Main st. store. even at 50% was still too high. If someone want's it bad enough at that price buys it.I hope it goes higher on ebay in 20 yrs lol... I would never buy ebay price in a thrift store..I do like the Gilbert AZ GW stores better stuff and so so prices..
