Noticed the DVD and CD sections at all the Goodwills in Southern California disappearing. Decided to ask a manager and I was informed that Goodwill of Socal are no longer carrying them. They are sending them off to their Goodwill Clearance centers where they are being sold off by the pound. Too many thiefs? Too much hassle? Does anyone care but me? lol

Yeah, they're selling them off to a mixed media buyer so they don't have to deal with the hassles. Bummer for you though. I'd also be bummed.

Sasha from Goodwill Southern California here! We are grateful that folks out there are interested in learning why electronic media is no longer available in our stores and have some good news to share!  We are not selling the items in bulk to mixed media buyers (though unsold merchandise does at some point end up being sold in bulk) but in fact have moved all of our inventory to our Amazon store front so that customers across the country can search our entire inventory for titles in one easy to shop stop! Though many books and all vinyl and VHS cassettes are still available in our stores, we now offer books, video games, CDs, DVDs all online at http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=goodwill+southern+california

And remember, when you shop Goodwill So Cal in store or online, you not only have access to high quality merchandise from a top rated vendor, 91% of the proceeds go to fund our no cost employment programs and services to help individuals with disabilities and other vocational disadvantages prepare for and secure jobs.  That's Good for Everyone!

Thank you for your support!

I would hate it if that happened at the GW stores I shop at.  It is annoying though when you find something you like and the CD or DVD is missing because someone stole it.  Lord, if you have to steal from a thrift store, there is something wrong with you.

What gets me is when they have a locked glass case full of VHS tapes and out of date computer software, yet there's expensive stuff on the shelves.  Who's gonna steal a VHS copy of a Barney video?

You'd be surprised what people steal, haha.

& funny to look up VHS tapes, silly. They have the VHS in a glass case on the wall at the Salvation Army here, but it's really trashy & it's not locked, it's even missing a piece of glass - just simply a shelf.

I saw a girl get arrested today for stealing a crummy tshirt. Apparently this wasn't her first time getting busted at that store for doing the same thing.

So now customers have to pay shipping to purchase electronic media from So. Cal. Goodwill? That turns me off completely; I hope they don't do that here as well.

That is not good for everyone, Sasha.

There are people out there with disadvantages & disabilities who cannot afford new media, afford to take their families to the movies, have the internet to buy your DONATED merchandise, cannot make it to the one rental place (if there is one in said city), but would like to enjoy cheap media items.

People donate not just with the intention of your profit margin so you can provide jobs, but with the intention of helping provide products for people who cannot afford to buy them new.

You are taking that away from them, that's goodwill.

My two cents anyways.

It is annoying when thrift stores expect you to be grateful to pay near retail prices for used merchandise.

Many times, its over retail.  Countless times, I have found items clearly marked from the dollar store at more than $1.  Other times I've seen the super cheap DVD player from Best buy (The $25 one) for $40 or $50!
