I had my basket in a corner, because the lanes were really thin, and I had to ask someone to get out of my basket twice. Same person!  I had seen her and her little friend whispering back and forth and pointing towards me earlier. I couldn't tell if they were looking to see what I was getting or if they wanted what I had selected.

The nerve of some people never fails to astound me.

I make it a point NOT to look in other people's baskets, because I've had my heart broken too many times, seeing things I would love to have had go to somebody else.

I usually just carry what I find.

Until I can't handle anymore, I hook the hanger over the top of my jeans/shorts and wear them like a tail. I get weird looks, but I don't have to keep up with (or maneuver around) a basket.

Once I get over about 10 things, they get too heavy or hard to handle and I have to get a basket.

In a couple of the thrift stores I've visited, the employees use carts to carry around items from one area of the store to another.  Might be things they're putting out on the shelves, might be "re-shop" that people change their minds about at checkout,  might be older stock that is going on clearance.

But if you leave your cart more than a couple paces away, it's not unusual for someone to start pawing through it, thinking it's abandoned or one of the store carts.  Makes things kind of difficult, especially on crowded days.

Also at this same store, once I saw some guy (who didn't have any kind of identifying badge or clothing marking him as an employee) put stuff into his cart, one of which was an item I wanted but didn't move fast enough on, and figured oh well, I was too late.  Then later realized he was just moving stuff around, but by the time I figured that out, somebody else had taken my item.  Grrr.

I wish they wouldn't do that.  I wish they'd use something different to move around their merchandise.

Never leave anything unattended at the thrift.

Especially when there are either a lot of shoppers in the store or they just don't have enough carts - it ticks me off when I can't get one (because that almost guarantees that I'll find too much great stuff to carry by myself) and there are several carts scattered throughout the store, loaded with merch the staff is supposedly putting out.   Huh

Lately I've noticed z-racks in the rows (effectively making it now a blockade) with little care from the stockers that they're stopping traffic. :/ Now I know that some of the stockers are doing community service there, but c'mon.

In my local Goodwills they have yellow canvas carts that they wheel the goods onto the floor with to put on shelves. I've found some really great things in them and always scout what's inside. I was looking in one with hundreds of CDs a few months back and this guy walked up and stood behind me. He said, "Excuse me, I want to look in the cart.". I said in reply flatly, "I'm looking in the cart now." and he just stood behind me brooding. I was not even going to let him intimidate me and continued looking until I was good and done. As I left he called after me, "Jerk!". I walked back to him and said, "Not really.". Then he mumbles some comment and I laughed it off. The nerve of some people astonishes me daily.

That guy was a jerk, but I find that in my area, a significant portion of the clientele in a thrift shop has no respect for the merchandise, or other shoppers.  Once I found an awesome vintage modern chair, took the tag off, and paid for it at the counter.  They put it on the sidewalk for me, and as I was backing my truck up to get it, I saw a woman changing her child's stinky diaper on it!

They wheel the new bric out in bins sometimes at the Sal Army and let people pick through.  The bin is big enough so that a few people can poke around at the same time.  Sometimes it does get a little pushy, but no real dramas have ever occured for me at a thrift.  Yard sales and church sales bring out the real vultures around here.
