Here's a mild annoyance.  I was in GW and spotted a bright yellow sweeper with all attachments that looked in great shape.  Plugged it in and it didn't work.  So I asked the clerk if perhaps where I plugged it in didn't work.  He took it over and plugged it into a different place and it still wouldn't start.  Once we took the hose attachment off we could see it was totally clogged full and he thought maybe
the motor was burned up.  But wouldn't you have thought they would have plugged it in to make sure it worked before
they set it on the floor?

Yes they should have checked it.
In many thrifts close to us, they have a sticker that says, "Tested" if it indeed has been tested.
I'm suprised GW made that mistake.

The thrifts here will test some things but not others.  If you buy something and it doesn't work they will let you exchange it for something else, but that can be a pain if you don't find something else for the same price.  The Salvation Army has stickers on the appliances that read something to the effect of sold as is, not guaranteed.  Always best to plug it in at the store if you can.

That's kind of scary that thrift stores put up used electrical merchandise that they either haven't tested or they know it doesn't work and could cause a hazard to a potential customer thinking of buying it or did buy it and found out the hard way it doesn't work.
