How many of you fellow thrifters have visited the Dayton, Ohio Goodwill down the road from the Air Force Base?
We recently visited Dayton on vacation and I had the best time at this GW.  It's like a warehouse.  Everything is in big tubs and you just dig, dig, dig through stuff. The store is HUGE!  The largest GW that I have ever seen. The clothes are on hangers and are $1.49 each.  The electronics and very large things are priced separately, but everything in the tubs is 69 cents per pound.  You wheel your shopping cart onto the scales when you are finished.  I went two times, I loved it so much.  I got tons of things....well not tons....they are weighing this stuff, but everything comes out much, much cheaper this way.  Think of how little a paperback book weighs?Huh   You can get a lot of these for 69 cents.  One paperback at my hometown GW costs 79 cents.  I am just using the paperbacks as an example.  I bought a lot more than paperbacks.  I found that I was throwing things into my cart that I may never have bought elsewhere, but I felt like they were almost free, considering their weight.  Items like sewing notions, paper products, tiny toys, small plushes, weigh hardly anything.  I loved it and urge all of my fellow thrifters to check it out if they are ever traveling through Ohio.

I haven't been to Dayton but we have them here in Vancouver WA and Portland and Salem Oregon has one each. We call them By the pound stores. I think GW calls them As Is. Talk about a way to get the Granddaughters (20, 17 and 13) to spend some time with me! They adore these stores. (The oldest two are in college. Think back to school shopping.) It must be in our genes LOL! They will look thru every bin including the books and we come out with at least one heaping cartful. I could never go alone and pick out stuff but they sure do find cool stuff. NOTE: Nanny doesn't know cool from groovy! LOL!

The 20 year old got a sewing machine for Christmas and she always made a mess here in my sewing room with stuff she buys there. Ah, now it's her mess!

Last year I was in the Dayton area for a week. I think I hit all the GWs in Huber Heights and Englewood, but missed the big store in Dayton. Wah!.

Next time...

Sure, why not?  Actually I am not sure what that means, but speaking of Goodwills- I was at a craft class last night when someone told me a new Goodwill recently opened in Northampton, MA which is less than a 1/2 hour drive from me.  There haven't been any Goodwills in this area for many years, in fact I don't think I have ever set foot in a Goodwill.  I will get over there soon.  I wish it was a little closer, I could put it in my daily rounds.  There is a new church thrift that is only open Saturdays in that area too, so maybe a Saturday would be good so I could check them both out.  I will have to add them to the directory & write a review!
