I am way behind on my Christams Decorating, but as I am starting to pull things out I see alot of the thrifted Christmas decorations I have bought in the past (mostly vintage).  I was wondering what other thrifted Christmas stuff people have found.   This year I found a 19" animatronic Bing Crosby in a Santa suit that sings Chritmas songs & moves.  I am giving that one away as a gift to someone I know who loves Bing Crosby.

I have a ton of old Christmas ornaments, all thrifted.  And I have found many things that I remember my parents or grandparents having that I have thrifted.  One of my favorites are little deer which my grandmother always displayed on a glass mirror on the table with the fake snow around it, giving the impression of a frozen pond. I think I liked it because you could actually play with it by moving the deer around and so on. Anyway, I have found those little deer, always one or two at a time and now have a whole herd of them!

My main Christmas decorations are bears.  And there's always a great selection of bears all year round to choose from.  I'll admit a soft spot for the coke bears and have quite a number of them in all sizes, all thrifted except one I received as a gift. My Valentine's decorations also involve bears so it's nice to have the white oneswhich can be used for Valentines too, along with red or Valentine decorated bears.

Although not decorating per se, I have also found some wonderful old Children's Christmas books which I enjoy looking at during the season.  (I also find wonderful new Christmas books, particularly right after Christmas and I always pick them up as little gifts for kids in my life.

I've also thrifted some old toys, like an old Tonka tuck in metal, a old Raggedy Ann doll and so forth that I enjoy putting out at Christmas.

If you're looking for a thrifter's anonymous, SuperiorGirl, I don't think anyone here will be able to help you. :-) It would imply some of us actually want to help OURSELVES, as well.... And speaking only for me, I'm too far gone, thriftwise, for that.

Hey we also put up our thrifted 7' tree that we purchased for $3 at Sal Army last year after Christmas.  I have to say it's the most beautiful tree we've ever had and looks so real.

I have thrifted a few vintage odds and ends, but, where I am, the thrifts seem to know that there are a lot of folks into the vintage stuff, because I see a lot of it in the "special" display cases, marked for much more than I want to pay. Undecided

Value Village has a lot of good stuff, but, unfortunately, they pack it in these baggies (kinda like grab bags, but you can see what's inside) and most of it gets chipped or broken. Angry

I'd love to see everyone's thrifted Christmas finds! Grin

i got the sweetest little christmas ornament the other day.. it only cost me a quarter, and it wasn't the biggest find i've ever had. but it's such a sweet little shiny bright bell and it makes me happy! i put it on the wreath on the front door, so we see it all the time, and are reminded that even during the holidays it's ok to recycle!

Yesterday I found a Christopher Radko glass ornament for $0.49!  It was a Santa holding a school book, and it was in almost perfect condition.  The only flaw I could find was a bit of glitter chipped on on the back of the snow he was standing in.  And even so, it's just a small scratch, a quarter of an inch long at most.  And it's on the back of the ornament!  I love blown glass.

I also got two 8" nutcrackers for fifty cents a piece and a nutcracker dvd for a dollar, to make a really festive white-elephant gift.

All in all, it put me in a very festive mood.

I seem to have dragged my best friend AND her mother and brother into the pit of Thrifting... None of us seem to go anywhere without hitting a few thrifts on the way anymore. We're thrifting gifts for each other. And as a result, it seems we end up getting each other more things... It makes for a very inexpensive, very elaborate Christmas season.

Zowie-- I just found a box of 12 ShinyBrites in a gradated purple and royal blue for $1.99 at the Salvation Army.

It was one of those Seeing It Across the Room sorts of moments-- "Those ornaments have great color... and they look like they're in a vintage box..." And bingo! I also bought another Christmas present for a family friend -- an Imperial Grape lidded candydish in milkglass like I have in carnival glass. She collects milkglass but doesn't have this piece.

YAY!

Lordy, TSR, but you are cleaning up this Christmas season!  I LOVE those colors...and not coincidentally, LOL, those are the colors I am using this year!  It's in the Zeitgeist, fer shure, y'all. Congrats on those ornaments and scoring the great gift, too.

For Christmas decorating for DH and me---since the "dreaded kitchen remodel" is still dragginggggggggggggggggggggggg on after two months, and we are still in the middle of a construction zone we will be using only what we have around the house within our grasp to decorate and only what we find at thrifts. Period. Imagination and creativity are the name of the game:

Thrifted for the holiday season thus far

1. One funky silver plaster angel, looks very 70s, thrifted for a quarter.
2. A pair of genuine Swedish Modern star candlestick holders from the 50s-60s, thrifted for .50 each (or a dollar for both). These are signed "Ystad Metall, Made in Sweden" I am thrilled!
3. Three angels to hang...they look like the Metropolitan Museum of Art Angels and they are Made in Italy--at half price, they were a dollar each--I am thrilled with these, also!
4. My Merrileaf dishes from Rennigers--will set a lovely table! Set on a thrifted tablecloth, of course.
5. That funky old heavy blue planter I thrifted a few months ago from my now-defunct SA, 6.99  I planted some Mexican Heather in it (which is bright Periwinkle blue-purple) and it looks stunning!
6. My Bitossi from last week, and another great glazed piece that I picked up yesterday for 1.5o
7. My three Danish Modern wooden candlesticks from Rennigers also...

Stay tuned!

PS:  I forgot to mention my "Winterlace by Tamberlane" ornament--still in the box in minty condition.  For a buck. It's the "Dove of Peace".
