Just a reminder to all in So Cal,  the southern california goodwill stores will open at 8 am on Black friday -- Nov 26 -- with their annual "treasure hunt".  Each store will have 200 FREE items.  Just find something with the free tag & it is yours.
& remember, SC Goodwill does not charge CA sales tax so free really is free. Wink

That is so cool, I am jealous. Do you know if there is a way to find out about the black friday deals for my local salvation army and good wills?

Even in a big market like Los Angeles, the charity thrifts don't seem to spend much money advertising --- at least not specific events or sales like normal retail.

Get to know the employees or volunteers at the thrifts you shop at.  Ask --- are you open black friday?  are you doing anything special?

If the thrift has an email list, get on it.

The SAs probably have a website, and I'm sure the Goodwills near you have one, you'll find deals and sales there.
Also the mailing list part that Magpie18 suggested is right on, but also see if any local thrifts have a FaceBook or Twitter page, they'll usually post sale events online using their social media.

Well, my brother, his girlfriend & her daughter hit one GW & I was at another.

Brother's girlfriend & little daughter each found a piece of jewelry with the free tag --- & the little girl's necklace (adult jewelry actually) is a sterling pendant Grin

I found a shirt,  actually I found several shirts but it is an one free item per shopper promo LOL  so I picked the one that suited me best.

& since brother, GF & children were at the opening of the GW -- they received gift certificates ( or legally, I guess they are merchandise only certificates ) worth $50 total.  So they ended up shopping at several GWs the whole weekend redeeming the MOCs.  My brother ended up with about 6 new-to-him shirts.

The Salvation Army stores located in Central IL had 50% off everything in the store on Black Friday.  I don't think the Goodwill stores did anything special.
