Hey Fellow Thrifters!

Just wanted to gab about the great experience we had yesterday at Antiques Roadshow here in Orlando.  Good Buddy and I attended as press and had a production assistant named Kate assigned to us who walked us around and made introductions.  Everyone was so incredibly nice!  We interviewed our faves like Leigh Keno and Gary Sohmers and had some great conversations about thrifting.  Stuart Whitehurst appraised a silver pitcher of my mom's for me and put a value of $1,500 to $2,000 on it.  After we left his table his colleague said she would have put it at $3,000 to $4,000, so Mr. Whitehurst caught up with us to let us know about the higher appraisal.  Such a nice guy!  We got some great material for upcoming issues of The National Thrifter, so we'll probably end up doing a 6-part series of articles.  I'm aiming to have our next issue done within a week with the Roadshow as our cover story.  We're definitely going to be visible in the background of a couple of appraisals because we were right there when they were filming, but the Orlando episodes won't air until January at the earliest so we'll have to wait a while to see ourselves on TV.  In the meantime, here's a picture of me talking to collectibles guru Gary Sohmers...

Awesome!  I know a lot of people think AR has given folks an overinflated sense of what their junk is worth, but I believe the show has saved many wonderful things from going to the landfill because people now realize there's a collector for virtually anything.  I can't wait to read your articles.

Cookie and I had an absolute BLAST. The experience was not surreal, but not what we expected either.
Everyone involved with the show was amazingly nice.
One might expect that you could be waiting in line for hours, but they schedule the ticket times so well that getting things appraised takes no time at all.
Some of the more interesting conversations we had were with folks that came to get their treasures looked at by the experts. Great stories and people.
I would recommend that every one of our readers attend a Roadshow when they come near your town.
Waaaaay cool! Grin

Awesome! I applied to get tickets when the Roadshow was in St. Paul, MN a couple years back, but unfortunately their lottery system was not kind to me and I didn't get in. I spent a lot of time debating my inner self as to which thrift store treasures I would have brought for appraisal. I can't wait to read your article series. The Roadshow has been a favorite of mine for years! Sounds like it was a blast!

Hooray! Could you guess it's my favorite show on TV? Is this going to be some good press for you guys? That would be stellar. And it just gave me an idea. Have you ever thought of finding an appraiser that would appraise a lucky thrifter's find through your website? It would take a lot of time and money to do everyone, but what if every month you took one thrift store find and looked up what it could be worth?
