I actually bought a used book on Amazon.com from a Goodwill store. I don't believe that Amazon charges anything similar to ebay's posting fee (?), so I really wish that the thrift stores could get their acts together and do this more often. I want to see them make more money; the low prices in thrift stores can be depressing, when you know that charities are depending on them.

Maybe you should think about volunteering your services to the organization. My local humane society has a thrift store, but never enough staff to put all the donated books on the shelf, let alone research prices, list them online and find a place to store them while waiting for a purchaser. It's not a matter of "getting their acts" together, it's more that they are hanging in there by a thread without the staff they so desperately need.

Dont waste your money on these scanning tools. As long as you have a smart phone you can do this for free. Just Download REDLASER and install it on your phone. You can scan anything with a barcode. Not just books. The tool is mainly to check the stock of the item in local stores and also on ebay and amazon.

What it also does is show you the price its selling on those websites as well. If you scan a book, it doesnt just show you the online selling price but also checks your local library to see if they have it in stock. Its a neat tool but I guess resellers have been using it to price items for resale. The company also just got bought out by EBay. Heres the link to the software:

My husband had one on his Iphone. He does use it at GW, but not at Garage sales or thrift stores..People at garage sales see you do it and will tell you a higher price then if you don't use one.. He doesn't make a mess though. I have seen people scan myself. No big deal unless the people are pushy.

Even though I don't quite know what they are & I am thinking it's an app on a phone, but whatever.

I have read on a blog or two about people asking the scanners to stop.

I guess if they refuse to stop, you can ask them to leave your property. If they refuse, they are now trespassing if you want to get crazy about it.

I ran into my first "scanner" yesterday.  Lady was polite, but she had already been through the cook books by the time I had arrived.  There was nothing there that interested me once she went through.
