Troy McClure went and I thing Thrift Sally too.

We in turn did go to a microscopic church sale where everything was a quarter. We didn't see anything that was worth purchasing.
Then we went to a neighborhood yard sale where 10 or so out or 50 homes have things to sell. The best thing that we got out of going to those 10 sales was the fact that I found a ping pong ball for the cats to play with.

LOL!!!! Was it even worth the gas?  I hate those blank, non-entity yard sales.

The yard sales are thinning out here & the ones lately have been pretty sparce too- I guess they waited until now so as not to compete with the big summer sales!  Such a waste of time, sometimes you can tell as you are walking up that there is nothing there.  I always feel obligated to take a quick look around rather that just turn around & leave.  Sometime they are just sad.  On a brighter note there were several church rummage & bake sales around here this weekend too.  I went back to one to return the non-functioning record player I was so excited to find yesterday.  They had a quarter section too.  Yesterday I passed over three Knowles "Sleeping Mexican" pattern dishes I kind of wish I had picked up now, even though I have no place to display them.  They are very 40's Mexican theme, like the tablecloths of that era.  There was also a cute mixing bowl of the same era, it had crazing on the inside but the colors would have gone with the dishes.  Again who knows where I would have put them but the whole lot would have only been one dollar, oh well!  I did get a nice Henri Bendel wool/cashmere blazer for a buck.

Today when I brought back the record player I went over to the quarter section to see if those dishes were still there, which they weren't, but I picked up two smaller pottery dishes with fruit designs that actually do match some things I have so I got them.  I looked up the mark on Ebay & was surprised to see they are actually quite old majolica pieces.  Here is a listing that just ended, the ones I got were the pear & apple dish.

I thought I had not found much this weekend but I guess I was wrong!

Hey GB,
Just wanted to say thanks for the heads up on this sale!  I went by there Saturday and was very impressed...they really know how to run a sale...from the parking attendants to having everything separated, sized, the books were divided by genre, it was all priced to sell, and the people running the sale were wonderful!!!  It was a lot of fun!!!!

Wow great find on the two Majolica pieces, I love Majolica and also Capidimonte (?) from Italy. Sometime you can get real lucky at these sales when people dont know the value of something or if their trying to move items out because they see it as someones "junk" thats o.k. it just means I find the treasures because I know my products. I ususally find this going on at church rummage sales where they just want the items gone... Wink

I don't know alot about this type of pottery, but the colors go with everything on the living room mantle & the pears & apples are very fall like.  I love church sales too, I wish they were every weekend, although there should be a number of fall harvest & holiday sales coimg up in the next month or so.  Kind of like the grand finale of yard/church sales before the boring winter months.

Antiques Roadshow did a whole episode tonight of yard/garage/church sale finds.  I had seen many of those segments before when they originally aired, but to see them all together in one show made me green with envy!

I've had some nice luck at rummage sales. I'd stopped off at one on impulse and ended up getting 42 vintage hankies in a lot-- some very elaborate designs, too-- for $10. Which, when you think about what individual vintage hankies go for even in the thrifts $0.75-$1 a piece) is pretty amazing.

TSR, that is totally amazing.  Anything really, really really outstanding?

I actually carry--and use--vintage hankies. It is so much more pleasant to waft out of one's purse an ironed, lavender water- scented, lacy piece of linen or cotton to delicately dab at one's face, than to use tissue that rips and tears and is harsh on the skin. At least in public, lol.
