I am going to be in Orlando in a next week and was wondering what the best thrift stores are in Orlando?  This weekend I was in Tampa for basketball and spent time going to thrift stores. Truthfully, I am now a lot more appreciative of my thrift stores in SW Florida.  I'm just hoping the stores in Orlando are better than in Tampa.

Any info would be helpful and time saving.

Forest Lake Gift and Thrift GREAT but with limited hours.
2nd Home Store in Apopka, very close to the above thrift..
Community Thrift Store on Orange Ave. And Edgewater Dr.. Both stores are HUGE and the clothes are what you'd want to zero in on, the other items are kinda pricey.
Thriftko in Casselberry is a BIG thrift with very low prices. They could organize some more, but it's a classic thrift.
3 Saints Resale Store Lots of stuff, very nice big store.

I'd just hit as many stores in between traveling from one to the other as i could, just for fun.
I wish we still lived there, we'd take you thrifting..
Let us know how you do..

Thanks for the info, I will try to get to those stores.  I know I can look in the directory, but do you know if there are any good stores near Universal Studios?  My brother lives off Kirkman and I will be staying in that area.

Thanks for the help!

ZERO near there!
You'll have to drive east on I-4 past Downtown Orlando to get to any good thrifts.
There's only a pretty bad Goodwill and a used to be good Salvation Army off of Orange Blossom Trail.

with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men
who fights a never ending battle for thrift, bargains,

Ok, I went to 6 or 7 Thrift Stores in Orlando today and was really disappointed.  I saved the ones suggested to me for Thursday, but I still can't believe how bad the other stores were.

I did not buy one item.  And I had an all time first.  The Salvation Army kicked everybody out of the store at 5:45 and they close at 6:00.  They turned the lights off and screamed at everybody to get out.  I was so mad and told them I was going to email somebody about it.  Anyway, does this happen often?  I've never seen a store close early in SW Florida.

Hopefully, tomorrow in Birmingham or Thursday in Orlando will bring better luck.

If a business's hours are 9-5 they should be open the entire time. I totally agree! I'm boycotting a local video store to us as they actually have their clock set 10 minutes fast so the employees can leave 10 minutes earlier. Weak! When I brought it up to the manager the next day, his response was, "Oh well, don't rent here anymore.". we haven't and won't. Thank God for NetFlix!

Our local Goodwill used to turn off the lights and have someone at the door preventing anyone from coming in 20 minutes before closing.  After that happened to me twice I emailed the local GW headquarters and that practice stopped immediately.

Honestly, I wasn't that mad about the store closing early, although I didn't really get a chance to look around.  I could tell everything was over priced anyway, so I knew that I wouldn't buy anything. I was mad about how rude the staff were.  I'm used to thrift store employees not being very welcoming to me in SW Florida (I think due to my age in an older populated area), but I am not used to employees being down right rude and kicking me out.

On a good note:  thanks to this website and the people who run it, I don't think it will happen again.

Ok, I was told to email the woman in charge of Salvation Army in Orlando and she would take care of the problem.  This was 2-3 weeks ago and I never heard back.  Its bad enough that the staff was rude to the customers and closed the store early, but not they aren't following through on their commitments.  Its really frustrating and I will never shop at a Salvation Army in Orlando again.

PS: Thanks to the people who run the site for trying to help me with the Salvation Army, but I never even received a response from the company.

I agree Anna. If you say you'll do something you should do it. The SA store director should have had the common courtesy to follow through. She seemed very sincere when I spoke to her on the phone. I guess she's just too busy. Lame, weak!
